In a circular economy, waste produced becomes food for another process or product, meaning we apply another process to the items we normally throw away. The circular economy uses donation and sharing, reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling to create a closed system that minimizes the use of natural resources, pollution, and emissions.

To reduce waste by avoiding items that generate trash
The EPA defines precycling as a decision-making process that involves informed judgments regarding a product's waste. We should consider whether an item is reusable, durable, repairable, whether it's made from renewable sources, and whether it's overpackaged. By avoiding items that are unrecyclable or contain excessive material or packaging, we can reduce the amount each one of us throws away.
